DIGITAL PAINTING
Sea of Stars or Ink Sans Birthday Drawing is the name of a digital painting I made using Krita, to celebrate the birthday of an Undertale fan-character called Ink Sans, created by Comyet on tumblr. I've been a huge fan of the game Undertale since elementary school, and I used to devour any fan-content I saw, often making my own as well. I grew an attachment to this character in particular mainly because of how he was written to represent creativity, encourage it, and appreciate the various universes and characters made by people in the fandom.
With this drawing, I wanted to visually convey the hope and positivity I felt from engaging with the community over the years. I also used the time working on this to improve my composition, colour theory, rendering, and digital painting skills in general.

The final digital painting. I love how this turned out, and personally, I feel like it does show the joy I feel from this character and fandom in visual form pretty well. I basically just kept on passionately working on this until I felt satisfied with the end product.

I plotted out the colours and pose here, based on my physical sketch. Usually I would bring the sketch in to go over digitally, but this time I just put down the most important parts and began to paint. I used a flat brush most of the time, which led to me becoming more conscious of my brush strokes, and made me focus on blending colours softly.

Top: the "Doodlesphere". The location in which the character resides, most of the time. I used this as inspiration for the background, but personalized it to have a sea of glowing stars. Below: Ink Sans. The creator's name is "Comyet" or "Myebi", and they mainly post on tumblr. He's based on the popular character "Sans" from Toby Fox's narrative RPG game, "Undertale" (2015).
